Sober Fan is dedicated to raising awareness and ending the stigma associated with alcoholism, addiction, mental health and recovery. The shame and fear associated with addiction and mental health are as deadly as the disorders themselves.
Twenty three million Americans are living in recovery: we are moms and dads, sons and daughters, brothers and sisters – together we have the power and proof that recovery works! Together we can change public perception and the public response to addiction and recovery.
Join us by sharing your story and spreading the message that there is a solution and recovery works!
Sober Fan Timeline
The Beginning Issue
Hi my name is Sherri and my sober date is 05/03/16. I started Sober Fan to showcase the AA newsletter I design and edit for Moore County, North Carolina. The Beginning issue is my debut issue. The submission, "My Path to Early Risers" is my story. The previous editor became my sponsor. You can read my tribute to her on page one.
It Takes 12 Steps to Look This Good!
My first tee shirt design was the result of an AA member's "share." She said she saw this tee shirt, but couldn't find one. Being a graphic designer, I created it for her. She was thrilled, and her reaction inspired me to create other designs in an effort to spread the message that recovery works and there is a solution!
The Sponsor Issue
This issue is a tribute to my sponsor. It is a reminder that AA is a "we" program and all the fear, guilt, shame and regrets we struggle with are cut-in-half when shared! Our circumstances are unique, but the feelings and emotions behind them are all too common. Each of us believes we can stop the madness ourselves, but the real solution is another person who shares your afflictions. If you can't find a way out, find someone who has!
The Secret to Living is Giving!
This is my second tee shirt design and I created it as a gift for my sponsor's 29th AA birthday celebration. She is 85 years old and her license plate says "FRNDOFBW." The message on this shirt represents the heart of AA. Once you've been given the "solution of AA," giving back to the program will keep you happy, joyous and free. OK, sometimes not too happy or joyous because, you know, life is difficult! But certainly FREE! Free from addiction 🙂
Shop All Tees
This design is the result of an AA "share". An AAer mentioned she saw this shirt and couldn't find one. So I designed this shirt to give to her.
Secret of Living
This design was for my sponsor's 29th sober anniversary. She says working with her sponsees keeps her young 🙂
Finding What Works!
So many of us feel "less" because of relapses and regrets, but these feelings are unwarranted. You are not your addiction. Recovery works!
Willing & Humble
To me, this is the essence of the fellowship of AA. The promises are true and miracles do happen 🙂
End the Stigma
There is a stigma and it needs to end! We are the only ones that have to defend the fact that we DON'T DRINK.
It took me 30 years of "trying," and in the end, three visits to the hospital in one month to finally "get it." I truly am grateful to be alive and for AA.
